Itzulpen teoria eta praktika: joerak eta eskolak - Xabier Mendiguren

This article offers an all-round view of the different tendencies and schools there are concerned with practical translation, mainly throughout the twentieth century. It must be said that the science of translation has only just made its first tentative steps, even though at various different times there have been scholars interested in studying traslation in depth, to the point of having nade normative and valorativejudgeinents on the subject.

After mentioning the decisive influence of structural linguistics, the increase in volume of translations and the demand for precision and accuracy in them, reference is made to the activity developed by the various institutions in the process of working out a theory of translation.

Later, the different attempts at theorizing are looked at, starting train the analysis made by A LjLidskano in his piece of work entitled Traduction hu maine el traduction ulécanique. Likewise reference is mule to the terolencies outlined in Teoria e Storia della Traduzione, a celebrated piece of work by G. Mounin.

Following this is a lengthy summary of the work Slovo o perevode by the soviet theoretician V.N. Koinissarov which includes a criticism of the three theories which were predominant at the time (denotive, transformational, and semantic) and a new one of an eclectic nature is brought forward which is "Theory of the levels of equivalence".

Finally the article reviews a piece of work by J. Deslile L'analyse du discours comme méthode de traduction in which, after the author points out the deficiencies of the semiotic, linguistic, sociolinguistic and the comparative-style theories mainly in so for as their didactic incidence goes, he clearly declares himself to be in favour of the "théorie du sens" as it has recently been developed in the Paris E.S.I.T. by such prestigious professors as Seleskovitch, Lederer, Dejean le Féal, García Landa and others.
