The future of Basque translation - Xabier Olarra

Abstract

Xabier Olarra, the man responsible for the publishing firm Editorial Igela and translator of novels, specializing in the «noir gendre» and thrillers, believes that all the progress undergone by translation of adult literature into Basque has been due on the one hand to a group of people who voluntarily have devoted themselves to this field, and on the other to those publishers who have cooperated in this task. Necessary conditions, if this activity is to go forward, would be training and preparing both future translators and those who are now at work, as well as having them exchanging experiences, tasks which he holds the institutions responsible for.
