Translation of relative clauses to Basque - Koldo Biguri

This article analyzes the translation of relative clauses to Basque, starting from a compiled corpus of present-day translations and translations from last century. The starting point is a statement by Lafitte according to whom the Basque language does not use relative clauses in the same way as the surrounding romance languages, and prefers to use other grammatical procedures. The objective of this paper is to exhibit some of these procedures by means of a comparative analysis of trends in Basque and Castilian Spanish. The report ends with a brief analysis of opposing theories.
