Translation to Basque by Valcarlos of a text from the Diocese of Pamplona - Jose Mari Satrustegi

The text which is presented here is an example of translation work of ecclesiastic decrees, a task which Basque priests had to carry out over the years so as to notify the decree contents to their parishioners. However, few written translations have been handed down to us over the centuries, but such samples as have reached us are a precious testimony not only of a philological nature, but also from the point of view of translation. In this text, we can see for ourselves how a priest, that is to say, a chance translator, tried to carry out a clear and popular version of a positively complex text, so as to make it understandable for his parishioners.
