Literary translators don’t exist. That’s what you’d often think looking at the press, book reviews, book covers... You’d think books are magically written in all sorts of languages at once. Basque literature in Polish

poznan.jpg

ItzulBaita | 2011-07-07

On the ItzulBaita website we have posted in Polish twelve short stories or excerpts by ten contemporary writers in the Basque language, plus a lecture in Basque given by the Polish writer and journalist Ryszard Kapuściński, since one of our tasks is to promote initiatives taking place in connection with Basque translation activity, and to inform about them and disseminate them.

In 1991, Basque language classes began to be given at the UAM-University of Poznań, and since 2004 Basque has been its specialization language. In November 2010, the Poznań-Gasteiz (Vitoria) seminar was set up through the co-operation of the UPV/EHU-University of the Basque Country and the UAM, under the direction of Amaia Donés, the Basque-language lector at the UAM, and Bego Montorio, the translator and lecturer at the EHU, and the result of this initiative is the translation into Polish of these stories.
