Araya Suite

Latest translation management solution in the marketplace. Inclusive of XLIFF Translation Editor and the HSQL open source database. CrossDesk offers the translator a desktop optimized to suit his needs, clearly displaying all information relevant to the translation at one glance. CrossTank is the translation memory used for storing existing translations. CrossTerm contains the dictionary entries and includes the document structure as well as both the source and target texts in separate windows. A capable editor combines all these elements to facilitate fast navigation and an optimized environment for quick and easy translating and editing of the current text. Across combines the quality of a manual translation with the performance of automated tools.

OmegaT

OmegaT should run on any platform which supports the Java Runtime Environment. It's free. It has been successfully installed on Windows (9x), Macintosh OS X and Linux. The Java Runtime Environment (J2RE) is also free.

Wordfast

Wordfast is a Translation Memory engine available for Microsoft Word on PC and Mac. Wordfast offers a transparent, open format for all its data, but maintains direct compatibility with Trados 2, 3 & 5 (TM exchange, MultiTerm glossaries, same segmentation), TMX and IBM TM. Excel, PowerPoint, Access files but also tagged documents can be translated.

There are two version of Wordfast:

• A commercial version, updated by Yves Champollion, creator of Wordfast.
• A free version, offered by Logos, updated in September, 2002.

Download Satellite PE and the associated files free of charge. Download the CBT (Computer based training) as well. The CBT will help you to familiarize yourself with the main function of Transit, specially if you are a first-time user of computer-based translation tools.

WordFisher

One of the most interesting new development for translators is the utilization of bilingual corpuses for eliminating as much of the mechanical elements of translation as possible. Commercial translation memory programs like Trados or Déjà Vu create and manage such corpuses, just like WordFisher does. The main difference is that WordFisher does not use a database engine. WordFisher is compatible with Trados, the most widely used translation memory program, thereby affording the opportunity of processing large translation projects with the participation of several translators and the combined use of a single copy of Trados and several copies of WordFisher.

The time-saving effect of translation memory programs depends largely on the nature of the source text; namely on its repetitive content. It is rarely emphasized that in most instances the improvement in quality achieved by the use of such programs, such as consistency and completeness, are as important as the probable increase in productivity.

Transuite

Trans Suite 2000 is the CAT (Computer Aided Translation) tool which enables translators to deliver quality translations faster, more reliable and more consistent than ever before. Trans Suite 2000 now supports TMX and OpenTag. It's not only one translation tool, but a whole suite of tools that manages every aspect of translation business. With the free tool you can create Translation Memories from your existing translations. It displays the existing source and translated documents side-by-side and allows you to validate that the text displayed in the target window is the translation of the text displayed in the source window.

SDLX

Cutting-edge support for translation memory context information that improves the consistency of translation beyond any product currently available. New Translation Clipboard feature with exclusive segmentation capabilities that allow SDLX to work productively on virtually any file format type. Enhanced XML filter, Web Based File filter and unique “gluing” function makes SDLX 2003 the platform of choice for localizing XML and web based file formats. Passolo

Passolo optimizes the complete software localization process. It ensures easy compilation, exchange and processing of translation data. Unnecessary extra work can be avoided, and localization can begin even before the final release of the software is available. It is easy to use. Users require neither time-consuming and expensive training nor programming experience. Many potential errors which occur during localization are avoided or automatically recognized by Passolo.

Software localization is part of a process which involves a number of experts, who generally all use different tools. In the Professional Edition, Passolo's so-called Add-In concept allows for data exchange between Passolo and other tools. Trial version free.

Lingo 2.0 for Windows has been designed specifically to meet the needs of professional translators, allowing them to make the task of creating and updating client or domain specific glossaries as easy as possible as they work.

+Tools offers a comprehensive set of tools, allowing the automatization of basic tasks on hundreds of files (search/replace, character conversions, format conversions, statistics, password recovery etc). A basic text alignment feature is provided, as well as a glossary editor. +Tools is freeware.

Match Calculator

Match Calculator is a free software for freelance translators and translation agencies. The program helps the users of CAT software to calculate the amount to be invoiced or quoted with multi-tier pricing structure for repetitions and fuzzy matches.

RWS Localization Tools

The Rainbow utilities allow the user to prepare files in various formats (HTML, XHTML, SVG, etc.) for a given translation environment, convert a file from one encoding to another, and convert from one type of line break to another.
