Average translation rates - 2008

General remarks

  • These translation rates are those recommended by EIZIE (Association of Basque language Translators, Interpreters, and Correctors) and aimed at informing its members as to what constitutes a rightful and fair price for their translation work.
  • These rates are good for written translation work, oral interpreting work, and for text correction.
  • As they are recommendations, these rates are not binding on anyone and are not binding on the business relationship between the customer and the translator.
  • Regarding that not covered in these recommendations, especially in reference to specialized translation jobs, corrections, etc., we recommend that our members should reach an agreement on the rate with the customer prior to undertaking the work in question.
  • The EIZIE reviews and revises these rates on an annual basis.
  • All rates are given in euros.

1 - Written translation work

  • In order to calculate the price of a translation job, the rates below are to be applied to the document translated into the target language.
  • The minimum unit for translating a document is the page, even if the translated text is less than a page.

1.1 - Basic rate

one page 18,32 euro

Instead of having a page-based rate, the following references may also be another reference for reckoning the rate.

one page 1800 characters
240 words
30 lines

1.2 - Basic rate differentials

The basic rate will be increased according to the factors detailed in this section by applying the corresponding percentage in each case.

Source language differentials

A Spanish, French, Galician, Catalan, Italian, Portuguese 0%
B English, German 25%
C Others 50%

When Basque is the source language, the rate assigned to each group should be increased by 30% in addition to the increases stipulated in the previous table.

3 - Text correction work

The EIZIE does not make any recommendations regarding text correction work in recognition of the infinite complexity and a myriad of factors that it can pose. Instead, we strongly recommend that our members should come to a pre-job agreement with the customer regarding the price and other specific conditions (type of correction required, by when the work is to be done, etc.).

1 A payment is considered prompt if paid 2 weeks after receiving the invoice.

2 These amounts stand for net, tax-free payment. The expenses are established for Spain.
